About Us
AerospaceNU (then called AIAA Northeastern) was founded in the fall of 2012 by two students with a passion for aerospace. Recognizing the importance of direct engineering experience, their goal was to learn more about the field by supplementing their classroom education with hands-on projects.
One change-of-name and nearly a decade later, the club has grown to over 100 active members. Our projects have become more ambitious, but our primary objective hasn’t changed: we aim to learn more about aerospace engineering, and share our knowledge and excitement with whoever we can. AerospaceNU is open to all, no prior experience necessary. Club members have the opportunity to gain practical experience as they work together to design, build, and fly their projects. Whether it's rockets, unmanned aerial vehicles, airships, quadcopters, or weather balloons, you can bet we're building it and sending it soaring!
What We Do
Engineering Projects
Join one or more of our projects to gain hands on experience in engineering and apply class work in a real-world setting. No experience is necessary to join, our veteran members and project leads will be happy to get everyone up to speed. Our projects are the heart of AeroNU, but they’re far from all we do!
STEM Outreach
We believe in sharing our passion for aerospace with everyone! We are active participants in Northeastern and Boston STEM outreach activities. From engineering fairs to plane construction demonstrations to egg-drop challenges, there are plenty of ways to get involved.
Employer Events
We host multiple employer panels each year, providing members the opportunity to learn about the industry and interface with potential employers for co-op and beyond. Previous events include industry talks with JPL, SpaceX, and Tesla.
Launch/Competition Trips
Our projects take engineering on the road with them, traveling to launch sites and competitions across the country. We’ve gone the the Marshall Flight Center, the MultiGP drone racing world championship, and even launched rockets from a frozen lake!
Rocket Certifications
The club has a large body of knowledge available to support anyone interested in pursuing NAR High Power Rocketry Certifications, and can provide reimbursement for certification expenses.
